Pavers heave with the frost and sink where the base settles. Stamped asphalt is a continuous surface, so it moves as one piece and plows clean without catching edges. It installs faster, costs less than brick or stone, and recoating every few years refreshes the color completely. Stamped asphalt can add a brick, stone or patterned appearance to selected paved areas. Why the pattern holds and the colour is the part that wears

The pattern is pressed into hot asphalt with a steel template while the mat is still workable, either behind the paver on new work or after reheating the surface in sections on existing pavement. What makes it durable is that nothing has been added: it is the same continuous asphalt slab, with a texture in it, so there are no joints for water to get into, no units to lift under a plow blade and nothing for weeds or ants to work through.

The colour is a two-coat polymer coating on top, and that coating is the part that wears. It is renewed rather than replaced, which is what keeps a stamped surface looking new for far longer than the driveway underneath it needed replacing.
